I recently spent an afternoon in the mountains at Nurture Day Retreat– a day retreat dedicated to nurturing the self, led by Erika and Nicole. The day included movement, self-reflection, connection and nourishment. Time was given to reflect on the year that had passed and what we wanted to manifest for the upcoming year. There were quiet moments sitting by the fire outside encircled by the mountains and the endless sky. The afternoon included a scrumptious meal and an equally delicious long session of restorative yoga. The session began with breathwork, using the breath to ground and center. It is said that the breath is the bridge between the visible and invisible worlds. As I focused on my breath in the room with the other women, I reconnected to the truth that regardless of creed, spiritual beliefs or philosophy, we can not deny that we are literally connected to each other by the breath- of life. Each of us must breathe in and out of the same space that holds all of us, the trees and the sky. Yet at times we can feel we are living in isolation and forget this bigger picture.

We returned to the fire after yoga. The clear night sky was now lit by a sliver of the moon, showing us that we are all part of the larger mystery, the magic dance of life. Ironically, it is in times of quiet self-reflection alone that I remember that I am not alone. I am a part of the greater whole, the Self is beyond myself.

We’re approaching the time of year where our schedules get stretched and we’re giving in many directions of ourselves and our time. When life gets full and busy, we default to the path of less resistance. We cut corners on all the things that keep us grounded and connected to the kind of life we want to live. We choose quicker less nutritious meals. Sleep schedules become erratic. Inevitably we crash from the hectic pace and seek fulfillment through unhealthy patterns and habits to compensate for the overall feeling of stress and burden. When mindful practices like yoga, meditation and moments of quiet contemplation become less of a priority, we can feel disconnected to ourselves and each other.

Take time to nurture yourself. We are offering many opportunities on our event schedule to take time for yourself and reconnect within. We have workshops leading up to the holidays, celebrating through and resetting after… a generous gift to yourself or to a special friend. Details on registering can be found under Events on our website.
